Orkney Islands

Complete Flickr collection

In 2012 I visted the Orkney Islands. The Orkneys are very different the Scottish Highlands you'll drive through to get them. They're flat and treeless. That description is pretty accurate, but it sounds pretty awful doesn't it? But nothing could be further from the truth! The Orkney Islands are quite spectacularly beautiful. The flat, treeless landscape creates huge, beautiful skies that dominate every view. Add in some truly spectacular coastal geology, some beautiful towns and villages with very distinctive vernacular architecture, and some amazing pre-historic monuments, and you have a photographer's paradise! I also have a gallery of Polaroid photographs from Orkney in the Polaroid section of this website.
